Here at Camp Korey, we create an atmosphere of camaraderie, adventure, and joy that mirrors the warmth of being with family they make friendships and memories that last far beyond their stay at camp.

As we’re preparing to invite campers and families for a fun-filled summer, we’re thrilled to share with you the 2024 Camp Theme, Tapestry of Belonging, where we celebrate the traditions of Camp Korey and the threads they weave together into a vibrant tapestry, uniting campers in a shared journey of discovery, growth, and friendship.

Wish Flags, Manifesting Dreams

Here at camp wishes aren’t just whispered into the night they are boldly displayed on vibrant-colored flags that flutter in the breeze throughout camp the tradition of creating Wish Flags is a symbol of dreams and aspirations, where campers express their deepest desires and hopes for the future. Much like the messages tied to these colorful banners, the bonds formed at Camp Korey are strong and enduring, creating a sense of unity and shared dreams that transcend the boundaries of the campground.

Camper Sarah’s wish was to overcome her fear of heights and make it to the top of the rock wall. When it was her turn to try it fellow campers and counselors rallied behind her, offering encouragement and support. As she rang the bell at the top of the wall cheers could be heard throughout camp celebrating her triumph and the unwavering solidarity of our camp community.

Warm Fuzzies, Projecting Positivity

Warmth comes not just from the crackling campfire but also from the exchange of Warm Fuzzies. Soft, fuzzy pom-poms circulate among campers, carrying with them words of encouragement, appreciation, and love. The simple act of passing around these tactile tokens creates an environment of positivity, where every camper feels valued and supported. It’s a reminder that much like a Warm Fuzzy, the love and connections at Camp Korey are tangible, comforting, and meant to be shared.

Camper Alex loved his Warm Fuzzy key chain so much that he proudly wore it all week as a constant reminder of the support and kindness around him. This tradition fosters an environment of uplifting one another and strengthens the bonds between campers.

Stage Night, Talents + Laughter Shine

Underneath the starlit sky, camp transforms into a stage where talents shine and laughter echoes. Stage Night brings out the performers in both campers and families, whether they’re belting out tunes, showcasing their dance moves, or delivering hilarious skits. This shared experience fosters a sense of community and encourages campers to celebrate each other’s uniqueness.

Camper Emily bravely stood before her peers to recite a poem she had written about overcoming challenges and meeting all her new friends. As she looked out into the audience, she was met with smiles, applause, and a sense of belonging that she had never experienced before. Stage Night fosters a spirit of inclusivity and celebration, creating memories that resonate long after the curtains close.

Silly Olympics, Letting Loose

Laughter fills the air during the Silly Olympics, a tradition that encourages campers to let loose and just be kids! From painting each other with bright colors to dancing in giant bubbles, the Silly Olympics provide an opportunity for uninhibited fun and camaraderie.

Campers and counselors alike engage in friendly games cheering each other on with infectious enthusiasm. Through laughter and playfulness, the Silly Olympics breaks down barriers and fosters a sense of unity.

Cabin Chat, Safe Sharing

While snuggled in their cozy cabins, campers share their thoughts, experiences, and feelings during Cabin Chat, in a safe and supportive environment. This tradition creates a space for open communication and genuine connections.

When camper Lily bravely shared her worries about a new medical device, she may need to have surgery for she was met with understanding nods and comforting words from her cabin mates. Another camper who had a similar surgery shared their experience and helped Lily feel more confident in her future surgery and both campers felt heard, valued, and embraced.

Book of Firsts, New Adventures

At the heart of Camp Korey lies a cherished volume known as the Book of Firsts, a testament to the spirit of exploration and self-discovery that defines the camp experience. This unique tradition encourages campers to document their daring adventures and newfound courage, capturing the essence of each momentous occasion. From conquering fears to trying new activities, every entry in the Book of Firsts represents a victory—an opportunity seized, and a boundary surpassed.

Camper James proudly wrote in the book about his first time riding a horse, celebrating his exhilaration and sense of accomplishment. As campers flip through the pages of this collective journal, they are reminded of the endless possibilities that await them at Camp Korey, where every challenge conquered is a step closer to personal growth and empowerment.

Reflection and Gratitude Circle, Honoring Shared Experiences

Before bidding farewell to Camp Korey, campers gather for a heartfelt Reflection and Gratitude Circle, a tradition that allows everyone to express their appreciation for the experiences, friendships, and triumphs gained during their time at camp. This poignant ceremony provides a space for reflection and connection, where campers share stories, express gratitude, and offer words of encouragement to one another.

For instance, during the circle, Sammy tearfully expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support of his cabin mates, who had cheered him on during moments of doubt and celebrated her victories with boundless enthusiasm.
