On Saturday, October 3rd the Hippodrome at Camp Korey was filled with laughter as children and families came together for a day of joy, growth and healing at Camp Korey. Camp to You, Camp Korey’s outreach program and Seattle Children’s Hospital hosted a fun-filled day at Camp for children and young people living with brain injuries.
Camp counselors facilitated the adventures for twenty-one children ages 5-17 including a scavenger hunt, arts & crafts, group games and more. Fifteen parents and caregivers had the opportunity to meet with staff from Seattle Children’s Rehabilitation Medicine Team, HeadStrong and Brain Injury alliance of Washington, along with the chance to meet and network with other families.
Camp Korey and Seattle Children’s Pediatric Brain Injury group started partnering together in February 2013 through the Camp to You outreach program. “Our partnership allows us to bring a bit of the camp fun to the lives of children and their families at Seattle Children’s,” states Devon Little, Interim Camp Director. “Opportunities like this Family Day allow families to meet outside of the hospital, in a fun and safe environment. It’s a chance for families to grow, heal and most importantly just have fun.”
Camp Korey’s Camp to You outreach program works year-round to bring joyful and communal experiences to children and families who may feel isolated due to a serious or life-altering medical condition. Camp to You operates in a number of healthcare facilities in Seattle, Tacoma and Portland. Volunteers support this wonderful program by helping to facilitate games and crafts.
