Supporting the Camp Experience
“At the end of the week when they leave, they are yelling, they are singing. They are full of joy and love and just overflowing with emotion. And that is why we do camp.”
-a volunteer
Medical care is at the core of Camp Korey’s programs for children with serious and life-altering conditions. While our primary focus is fun, confidence building, and recreational access for our campers, none of this would be possible without a strong underlying support structure. Our dedicated medical volunteers help Camp Korey fill in the necessary pieces during each program, adding condition-specific expertise and experience as health care professionals.
Join our team!

We have a variety of opportunities throughout the year, but the greatest need is for a weeklong commitment during one of our summer camp sessions. We appreciate the service of doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Desired Professions:
- Doctor
- Nurse
- Physician’s Assistant
- Occupational Therapist
- Respiratory Therapist
- Pharmacist
Expectations
The Camp Korey Medical program is overseen by a full-time Medical Director and Nursing Director and supported by two highly trained, full-summer nurses. We also rely on the support of our wonderful volunteer doctors and nurses throughout the summer! Depending on the medical, developmental, and 1:1 needs of the group, Camp Korey summer sessions serve between 32 and 64 children at a time. Campers are divided into smaller “Cabin Groups” of about 8 children, with at least one nurse assigned to each cabin. In addition to our volunteer nurses and doctors, other medical professionals are on hand to support the additional medical needs of our campers. A typical “Camp Korey workday” is both challenging and rewarding. Campers are active from 7 am to 10 pm, though clinical staff is available to treat campers 24 hours a day with rotating, on-call, overnight coverage.
Please note that you do not need to be a specialist in the field of each specific medical population. The Camp Korey medical team will provide all medical volunteers with diagnosis-specific information and education prior to your camp session, as well as a full volunteer training onsite prior to camper arrival.
Commitment & Accommodations
Camp Korey medical volunteers typically serve for one five-day camper session. While on property, they stay in the Bungalow house in the center of camp. Volunteers share double rooms (with individual beds) with full bathrooms, and have access to a kitchen for off-meal hours. Medical staff eats meals in the Hippodrome alongside our campers and counselors, where much of the food comes from our organic Camp Korey garden.
