$49,917 grant will support Camp Korey’s Fishing & Boating program along with Camp to You Outreach
Camp Korey has received a generous grant from Niagara Cares to support improvements to the fishing and boating program, and to support the Camp to You outreach program. This grant will enable the camp to purchase additional boating and safety equipment; improve the ADA dock including expanding the dock by 20 feet; and training of waterfront staff. In addition, the grant will help increase our Camp to You outreach presence by 30% in Seattle, expanding our facility programming in multiple locations.
“We are grateful to Niagara Cares for their commitment to strengthening our camp program,” said Hillary Carey, Executive Director. “Niagara’s funding is significant and will enable us to improve upon the Camp Korey experience. Classic camp traditions like fishing and boating are very popular, and the expanded ramp will bring our campers further out into the water, safely, where more fish tend to swim. For the campers who can’t always make it out to camp, the funding helps us to bring more of the Camp Korey magic to them in numerous hospitals and health care settings in Seattle.”
Camp Korey is one of seven member camps in SeriousFun Children’s Network in the United States receiving a grant as part of Niagara Cares award program.
“This is an exciting time for all of us at Niagara as we award one of our first grants through Niagara Cares to Camp Korey the SeriousFun camp in Washington,” said Kristen Venick, Niagara Cares Director. “Niagara and its employees are committed to investing in programs that align closely with our mission and commitment to support children and families who often face insurmountable challenges. We feel obliged as a corporate citizen to help make a difference in communities where our employees live and work.”
Camp Korey empowers campers and families living with serious medical conditions with year-round, life-changing experiences, always free of charge. Designed around the principle of purposeful play, SeriousFun camps adapt activities, equipment and facilities to meet special needs so that all campers, despite different abilities, can fully participate. Moreover, every activity is intentional and provides therapeutic benefits to campers’ health and quality of life. The experience allows children to experience success and gain the confidence to try new and exciting things in a supportive environment. Camp Korey features a diverse range of programs including a universally accessible ropes course and zipline, rockwall, horseback riding, pet therapy program, farm to table program, as well as the traditional camp activities like swimming, boating, arts and crafts, and campfires.
