On Saturday, September 20th over 500 guests gathered together at Grow, an annual fundraising event for Camp Korey featuring Chef Brian Scheehser of Trellis Restaurant at The Heathman Hotel. Held on Camp Korey’s breathtaking grounds at the historic Carnation Farm, guests enjoyed exquisite pre-dinner chef and vintner pairings, bid on one-of-a-kind items, and enjoyed camper performances with musical guest Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Grow was generously sponsored through numerous corporate partners, including title sponsors Microsoft and Newman’s Own; platinum sponsor ECOS and Earth Friendly Products; gold sponsors The Clorox Company, Club Demonstration Services, John L. Scott Foundation and Key Bank; and silver sponsors Coca-Cola, Mars Petcare, Moneytree and Seattle Children’s. Throughout the night, community members placed bids on amazing trips and items and raised the paddle to support Camp Korey’s mission. “We are beyond honored by the generous support of our community,” states Executive Director, Hillary Carey. “It is because of the support from wonderful corporate and community partners and dedicated volunteers, we are able to bring joy, growth and healing to children and families in need, free of charge.”
A highlight of the night included a special camper Stage Night performance, with musical guest Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Prior to taking the stage, Smith spent time with the campers at a private meet and greet, talking about music and the camp experience while autographing drum sticks. Smith performed on stage with two campers, drumming out the beat to “We Will Rock You” by Queen with camper William followed by a performance of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Scar Tissue” with camper Bella. The audience was also treated to a performance of Michael Buble’s “Haven’t Met You Yet” by camper Alfie, a dance to Van Halen’s “Jump” by camper Nathanial, an original piece titled “Mermaid Freedom” on the keyboard by camper Brenden and a video montage of camp memories by campers Sophie and Anaya.
