Summer Camp

Camp Korey is specially designed for children with life-altering medical conditions, and allows them to safely enjoy the activities of traditional camp.  Between early bird fishing at Horseshoe Lake and evening activities like dance parties and Stage Night, campers have the chance to just be kids.

Camp Korey campers foster meaningful friendships with each other and with their counselors.  Most importantly, everyone has fun!  Laughter, friendship and enthusiasm permeate the 818 acres of Carnation Farm.  Campers are empowered to do things they only dreamed of, and camp is infused with the spirit of victory at every turn.

A Typical Summer Day at Camp Korey:

  • Early risers accompany their counselors to Horseshoe Lake, where the fish are eagerly anticipating their arrival.
  • Breakfast begins at 8:30, after all of camp lines up and cheers our way into the Hippodrome.
  • After breakfast, it is back to the cabins for a quick clean up before the first activity.
  • Each cabin has an assigned activity area in the morning, which might include horseback riding, arts and crafts, swimming, boating, fishing, mural painting, or the climbing wall.
  • Surprises abound as theme of each year’s summer camp plays out in wacky adventures, treasure hunts, and more.
  • Lunch follows at 12:30 p.m., then an afternoon rest period.
  • Afternoon activities are camper’s choice!  A favorite program area from the morning can be repeated later in the day.
  • After a lively dinner in the dining hall, campers and counselors head back to the cabins briefly before the evening program activity: Stage Night, in which campers are invited to share a talent, is one weekly favorite. There are also the Camp Dance, Campfire Night (complete with s’mores and songs), Movie Night, and more.
  • The last activity of the night is Cabin Chat, in which campers process the day and their thoughts with counselors and fellow campers.  They often share very personal experiences during this time, drawing cabin mates close together.
  • Lights are out by 10pm, and campers and counselors alike dream happy dreams of the fun-filled day ahead!

Adaptive Recreation

Activities and fun at Camp Korey are for everyone!

Through adaptive recreation techniques—methods of customizing equipment and providing special assistance—children with a range of physical capabilities have access to fun, challenging activities that they might not experience outside of camp.  Sites of adaptive recreation at Camp Korey include the universally-accessible ropes course and indoor climbing wall; the equestrian program; the Hippodrome stage; camper cabins; and more.  Every aspect of camp is available to every camper.  Campers feel included, supported, and part of the fun, and they build confidence learning what they can do, not what they can’t.
